He stood in the doorway of Whammy's house, staring at the streets. He wished he could be in one of the cars, he wished he could get away from Whammy's. Away from faking everything. He took a bite out of his chocolate, and turned to his best friend, who was to focused on playing The Legend Of Zelda to even take in his surroundings. Mello pushed Matt softly, wondering how much force it'd take to send him flying off the side of the stairs. Apparently, not much. Matt lost his balance, and threw his Gameboy to the ground.
"MELLO, YOU DICK!" Matt said, pushing his best friend roughly, then running down the stairs to retreive his precious Gameboy.
Mello shrugged, "I just wanted to see if you'd fall off."
"I dunno, seemed fun." Mello took another bite from his chocolate, then turned around to walk inside.
Mello stopped, and turned around.
"At least you didn't fall off and die."
"Yeah, thanks for that." Matt growled, holding his broken Gameboy.
Mello shrugged, then went inside and up to their shared room. Matt threw his Gameboy at the wall and crawled into a corner, sniffling. Mello, though he felt bad, pretended not to care.
"You're overreacting, Matt."
"I'm really not! My /mom/ gave me that gameboy!" Matt hissed, tears pouring down his cheeks.
Mello stopped talking, and stared at his hands. He'd broken the one thing that bound Matt to his deceased parents. He fingered the small cross around his neck, trying to think about how he'd feel if Matt broke it. He looked around their room, feeling it closing in on him.
"Matt, I'm sorry... really."
"FUCK YOU!" Matt said, walking to his bed and hiding himself under the blankets.
Mello sighed, stood up, and walked back outside. He sat in the same place Matt had, and watched the cars drive by. Being as upset as he was, over the fact that Matt was mad at him, he sulked in his misery. He stared through the iron bars, and wished for a way out. This wasn't home to him. He'd never call it home. Home is supposed to be a place you wanted to be, a place you wanted to go back to every chance you could... A sanctuary.
Well, this /wasn't/ Mello's sanctuary.
